The two-day event was co-organized by School of Biomedical Sciences and the Hong Kong Sciences and Technology Parks Corporation. It was well-attended by more than 250 local and overseas participants. In fact, it was the second Conference organized under the "ASIA-International Biomedical Science Consortium" which was officially established in 2011. Along with 11 other tertiary and research institutions from Southeast-Asia, our School was invited to join this Consortium in September 2012 which aimed to tighten the regional academic collaborations and linkages. The first Conference was organized in Thailand in 2012 and the Consortium members would take turn to host the event biennially.
The 2014 Conference focused on four main areas, namely (i) Infectious Diseases & Immunology; (ii) Oncology; (iii) Stem Cells; and (iv) Reproductive Genetics. We were most honored to have invited (i) Prof. Dennis Y.M. Lo, Associate Dean (Research), Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong; (ii) Prof. Yuen Kwok-yung, Henry Fok Professor in Infectious Diseases, Chair of Infectious Diseases, Department of Microbiology, The University of Hong Kong; (iii) Prof. Chang Tse-wen, Distinguished Research Fellow, Genomics Research Center, Academia Sinica, Taiwan; (iv) Prof. Suh Yoo-hun, President, Korea Brain Research Institute, South Korea, to serve as the keynote speakers of the Conference. Researchers from our School, participatng institutions of the Consortium and other institutes also presented their related works and experience with the participants. In addition, the Conference featured the "ASIA-International Biomedical Science Consortium – Outstanding Poster Competition" for participation of the postgraduate students from the member institutions of the Consortium.
