Event: Refilling the Interregnum: Newly Discovered Imperial Porcelains from Zhengtong, Jingtai and Tianshun Reigns (1436-1464) of the Ming Dynasty Symposium, Art Museum
To contribute to the study of porcelains of the Zhengtong, Jingtai and Tianshun reigns of the Ming dynasty, a symposium was organized by the Art Museum from 31 August to 1 September, 2018 for the exchange of viewpoints and research findings among local and overseas scholars.

The opening lecture was held on 31 August at L1, Institute of Chinese Studies. Prof. Peter Y. K. Lam, Honorary Research Fellow of Institute of Chinese Studies and Retired Director of the Art Museum, delivered an introductory speech, followed by a presentation by Prof. Jiang Jianxin, Director of the Jingdezhen Ceramics Archaeological Institute and Jingdezhen Imperial Ware Museum. The presentation topic, entitled "A General Study on Porcelains from Zhengtong, Jingtai and Tianshun Reigns Excavated from Jingdezhen," has attracted an audience of 110, filling even the staircases of the lecture hall.

The full-day symposium on 1 September was divided into the morning and the afternoon sessions, consisting of 4 panels in total, at LT8, Yasumoto International Academic Park. The morning session discussed the latest archaeological discoveries of Zhengtong, Jingtai, and Tianshun porcelains in China and abroad. Prof. Qin Dashu (Professor, School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University) and Prof. Yu Pei-Chin (Chief Curator, Antiquity Department, National Palace Museum, Taipei) were the moderators. Speakers include: Mori Tatsuya (Professor, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts), Kim Eun Kyoung (Lecturer, Department of Archaeology and Art History, Korea University), Cai Luwu (Head of Collections Department and Research Fellow, Hubei Provincial Museum), and Gao Xianping (PhD candidate, School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University). The session was attended by 102 people.

The afternoon session, focusing on special studies, was moderated by Prof. Guo Xuelei (Associate Director, Shenzhen Museum) and Prof. Hsieh Ming-Liang (Professor, Graduate Institute of Art History, National Taiwan University). Speakers include Lu Minghua (Research Fellow, Shanghai Museum), Wang Guangyao (Research Fellow, Palace Museum, Beijing), Chern Yuh Shiow (Assistant Curator, National Palace Museum, Taipei), Wu Junming (Associate Professor, Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute), and Wang Guanyu (Research-Assistant Curator (Antiquities), Art Museum, CUHK). It attracted 97 participants.
