President of Tsinghua University Appointed as Honorary Professor of CUHK
Prof. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University, led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 29 May, during which he was presented the appointment certificate as Honorary Professor in the Faculty of Science of CUHK by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. After the presentation ceremony, Prof. Qiu had a dialogue session to exchange views with CUHK members and students on the development of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Prof. Sung said during the ceremony that Prof. Qiu is a veteran scientist and has been actively promoting the development of national research and higher education, with significant contributions in basic research and relevant knowledge transfer in material science. CUHK is very honoured to have Prof. Qiu as Honorary Professor. He believes that both universities will continue their efforts in expanding the depth of collaboration and providing greater innovative opportunities and directions.
Prof. Qiu pointed out in his speech that both CUHK and Tsinghua emphasize the importance of talent nurturing in their motto, reflecting the same spirit of temperament and style in their missions. He is confident that the future collaboration of the two universities will grow with broader spaces and more diversified areas. As the President of Tsinghua and Honorary Professor of CUHK, he will endeavour to promote the development of bilateral cooperation.
During his stay at CUHK, Prof. Qiu also visited the Department of Chemistry, where he met with Prof. Dennis Ng, Associate Vice President; Prof. Henry Wong, Faculty Dean of Science; Prof. Yeung Ying-yeung, Department Chairman of Chemistry; and Prof. Miao Qian, Deputy Department Chairman. Prof. Qiu also paid laboratory tours to understand more about the relevant research development in CUHK.
Since CUHK's establishment of a partnership with Tsinghua in 1985, both universities have been in concerted efforts involving a range of collaboration areas. Prof. Joseph Sung has been appointed as Honorary Professor of Tsinghua.

Vice-President Zhang Jie of Chinese Academy of Sciences Visits CUHK
Prof. Zhang Jie, Vice-President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 May. He met with senior members of CUHK including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; and Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice President. Members of both sides shared views on enhancing collaboration in research as well as in new development plans. The visit contributed to the enhancement of communication between the two institutions, expanding the scope of future collaboration.
CUHK has been in close collaboration with CAS in academic exchange and joint research projects. Apart from the two state key laboratories and a number of joint laboratories jointly established with CAS, CUHK also organizes the CAS Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series annually since 2007. A CUHK-CAS Partnership Steering Committee was established in 2014 to forge effective and sustainable relationship and strengthen partnership with CAS.

Delegation Led by Party Secretary of Xi'an Jiaotong University
Prof. Zhang Maizeng, Party Secretary of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), led a six-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 24 May. The delegates had meetings with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice President; Prof. Joseph Lau, Master of Lee Woo Sing College; and Prof. Xi Chao, Assistant Faculty Dean of Law.
Both sides exchanged ideas on such aspects of collaboration as college management, student exchange and talent nurturing. XJTU delegates were also led to visit the campus and Lee Woo Sing College to better understand the administration of CUHK colleges. Through this visit, the delegation obtained more information about CUHK and its colleges and the visit also enhanced communication for further collaboration.
Since the partnership establishment in 1994, CUHK has been in different collaboration areas with XJTU. Chongshi College of XJTU has signed a collaboration agreement with Lee Woo Sing College of CUHK. In 2016, the University joined the University Alliance of the Silk Road (UASR) initiated by XJTU to promote the spirit of the Silk Road and to build a cooperative education platform to further regional development.

Delegation from Ministry of Science and Technology Visits CUHK
Mr. Guo Zhiwei, Deputy Director General, Department of Basic Research of the State Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 24 May. During their stay, the delegates visited a wide range of joint laboratories in CUHK, where they met with the laboratory directors for academic exchange. The meetings enabled a better understanding of the University's research developments, enhancing communication for further advancement.
