CUHK Forges Partnership on Medical Robotics with SJTU
Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a 12-member delegation to visit Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on 19 May. He met Prof. Lin Zhongqin, President of SJTU and officiated at the inauguration ceremony of the CUHK-SJTU Joint Research Center on Medical Robotics with Prof. Lin. The two universities convened the third meeting of the Partnership Steering Committee and signed collaboration agreements during the meeting.
The CUHK and SJTU robotics research groups have been in productive collaboration. Prof. Sung said at the inauguration ceremony that the joint centre will further facilitate collaborative research in medical robotics and accelerate technology transfer for clinical applications. The two Presidents co-chaired the third meeting of the Partnership Steering Committee during the visit. Some 20 representatives from both universities joined the meeting. CUHK members included Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Prof. Henry Wong, Faculty Dean of Science; Prof. Wong Kam-fai, Associate Dean of Engineering; Dr. Andy Wong, Assistant Faculty Dean of Business Administration; and Prof. Philip Chiu, Assistant Faculty Dean of Medicine. Joint teams reported on their respective project progress in the previous year in fields of collaboration comprising high confidence software technologies, industrial internet and big data, robots, Asian Business Programme, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) and other academic exchange. Discussions were held on deepening and expanding the existing scope of collaboration. The Faculties of Engineering and Science of CUHK signed academic collaboration agreement and student exchange agreement with the School of Cyber Security and Zhiyuan College of SJTU respectively to further enhance the collaborative relationships.
SJTU has been a very close partner of CUHK's since the establishment of partnership in 1990. Collaboration projects between the two universities range from academic exchange, joint programmes, student activities and research collaboration. The Partnership Steering Committee was set up in 2015 to oversee and monitor the collaboration with comprehensive planning and direction.

CUHK Builds Key Partnership with Tsinghua University
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Tsinghua University have forged a strategic partnership by jointly establishing a research centre for the Chinese economy. Prof. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua, visited CUHK on 29 May to officiate at the inauguration ceremony of Joint Research Centre with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK.
The CUHK and Tsinghua joint research teams have long collaborated and at the forefront of research in the field of the Chinese economy. The CUHK-Tsinghua University Joint Research Centre for the Chinese Economy will focus its effort on relevant research covering an extensive range of topics to include labour, trade, finance, industrial organization and history. It will serve as an exchange platform for scholars all over the world to conduct cross-disciplinary research, and develop as a constructing a global leading base globally on the in Chinese economy. Prof. Sung said during the ceremonies that the newly established joint research centre will utilize research sources of both universities in multilateral partnerships, focusing its effort on relevant research. He believes the centre can enable both universities to scale new heights in expanding the depth of collaboration and providing greater innovative opportunities and directions.
In the afternoon of 29 May, Prof. Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK attended a plaque presentation ceremony cum entrepreneurship education symposium organized by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Alliance of China (IEEAC). The Alliance was initiated by Tsinghua with President Qiu as the chairman of the executive board. Prof. Poon accepted the excecutive board member plaque of IEEAC on behalf of CUHK and gave a speech at the ceremony on the University's recent developments and achievements in innovation and entrepreneurship.
CUHK established partnership with Tsinghua as early as in 1985. Research collaboration between Tsinghua and CUHK ranges from joint research units to national projects. Both universities are members of Association of University Presidents of China and PINE League. In 2015 and 2016, CUHK joined IEEAC and the China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education, the two important university alliances for promoting cross-cultural collaboration in humanities and innovation and entrepreneurship education in China.

CUHK Convenes Partnership Steering Committee Meeting with NCKU
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) convened the 2nd Partnership Steering Committee Meeting with National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) on 15 May. A total of 13 CUHK members formed a delegation to visit NCKU, including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vicce-Chancellor; Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice President; Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, Faculty Dean of Social Science; and Prof. Winnie Mak, Associate Faculty Dean. The meeting was co-chaired by Prof. Sung and Prof. Jenny Su, President of NCKU.
Research collaboration fields between the two universities comprise innovation, aging, community rebuilding, gender studies, biomedical engineering, cultural neuroscience, literary studies, energy and engineering, as well as student and academic exchange. In the meeting, more than 30 representatives of joint research teams took turns to report on their project progresses and to share research experience and views. Prof. Sung and Prof. Su provided advice regarding the development of joint projects, hoping that the collaobraive work can grow based on the specific directions and plans to utilize academic strength and enhance research levels.
Since the partnership establishment in 2007, CUHK and NCKU have been maintaining a close collaborative relationship in a range of aspects such as research and student exchange. In 2015, the CUHK-NCKU Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science was established as the University's first joint research centre in Social Science with universities in Taiwan. The establishment of the Partnership Steering Committee was formed in the same year to coordinate joint projects towards systematic and strategic growth.

CUHK Enhances Partnership Development with Fudan University
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) convened its third meeting of Partnership Steering Committee with Fudan University on 19 May. The meeting was co-chaired by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Xu Ningsheng, President of Fudan University. Over 40 representatives from both universities attended the meeting, during which they sought new opportunities whilst reviewing the progress and devising plans for further collaboration. Participating CUHK members included Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Faculty Dean of Arts; Prof. Chiu Chi-yue, Faculty Dean of Social Science; and Prof. Wong Kam-fai, Associate Faculty Dean of Engineering.
Members of each joint project under the Committee in aging, public health, big data, humanities and history, linguistics, general education as well as student exchanges, reported their respective project progress at the meeting. Special focus was paid on new collaboration opportunities regarding Greater China projects under the national Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the updates on the Shanghai-Hong Kong Development Institute. Prof. Sung pointed out that a more systematic coordination was developed and new joint projects were explored under the framework of the Committee. He hoped that the Committee can continue to enhance the exchange and further advance the partnership development by untilizing the research strength of both sides.
Fudan University is one of the key partner institutions of CUHK in mainland China. Since the establishment of partnership in 1985, both universities have carried out a wide variety of collaborative projects ranging from student activities and scholar exchange, to research collaboration and joint projects. The Partnership Steering Committee was set up by the two universities in 2015 to forge effective and sustainable relationship.
