Mr. Gu Zhaoxi, Vice Governor of the Yunnan Province, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 10 November to give a public lecture on "Science and Civilization". He also met with CUHK representatives including Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kenneth Young, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
In the lecture, Mr. Gu talked about the nature of science and its relation to human society and civilization. He also considers art and science to be equally important in our society and its development.
Born in Jiangsu, Mr. Gu was graduated from the Nanjing University with a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Mr. Gu was a professor in Peking University. He also worked for the Jiangsu Municipal Government and National Toursim Administration of the People's Republic of China. Besides, he initiated and participated in drafting China's first Protection of Intellectual Property Rights on "Regulations on the Protection of Computer Software". |
