The bi-annual 6th e-Challenge Cup, a business plan competition open to university students of China was held at Sichuan University, Chengdu on 17 – 18 November. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) won the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards for the Hong Kong and Macau Region.
The Gold Award for the Hong Kong and Macau Region went to a team of graduate students of the Systems Engineering and Engineering Management Department. The winning plan, entitled "VMiner – Better than a Chartered Financial Analyst", introduces an artificial intelligence technology which can provide real-time stock market analysis to individual investors. "Paradise of Internet Robots" took second place and "Golden Rice Mountain", a proposal on grain harvest technology, received the Bronze Award. Prof. Hugh Thomas, Director of Centre for Entrepreneurship, was the consultant of the business plans. The 6th e-Challenge Cup competition received over 600 entries from 356 higher education institutions in 31 provinces and 168 made their way into the final run with various areas of interest ranging from agriculture, biomedical technology, electronic information, chemical technology to mechanical and engineering. There were 16 entries in total from 8 Hong Kong higher education institutions, namely CUHK, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong Baptist University, Lingnan University, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education. |
