China Links Seminar 2014 - Shenzhen Government's Support in Science and Technology Innovation

 

On 29 May 2014, a 10-member delegation led by Mr. Shi Qunzhen, Deputy Inspector of Science and Technology Innovation Committee of Shenzhen Municipality, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) to introduce the policy of Shenzhen Government on research and technology development. Presentations were given during the visit as talks for the China Links Seminar 2014.

 

Representatives from the Committee on Science and Technology Innovation of Shenzhen gave an overview on the latest development in Shenzhen and delivered information on a variety of policies regarding Shenzhen Government's support in science and technology innovation. Funding opportunities in Shenzhen were also introduced. The delegates encouraged CUHK members to participate actively in research and science collaboration in Shenzhen. The seminar attracted many academics and members from Faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Medicine, Science, Social Science and CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute to attend.

 

The delegates also took the opportunity to learn more about the University's recent accomplishments during the visit. They met with Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; academic members from different Faculties and representatives from offices in Shenzhen development; research and knowledge transfer, academic links and research administration to obtain the updated information of research and technology developments in CUHK.

 

The visit and the seminar enabled the CUHK community a deeper understanding of the recent policy and funding opportunities in Shenzhen. They also provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and build up links between CUHK and Science and Technology Innovation Committee of Shenzhen Municipality.

Graduate Programme Information Sessions in Northeast China and Tianjin

 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) organized graduate Programme information sessions at our mainland partner universities in Harbin, Changchun and Tianjin from 12 to 15 May 2014. Fifteen academic and staff members from different faculties and schools of CUHK joined the visit.

 

CUHK members of the delegation comprised Prof. Wing Wong, Dean of Graduate School and representatives from Faculties of Arts, Education, Engineering, Law, Medicine, Science, Graduate School and Office of Academic Links (China). Four information sessions were held for students of Harbin Institute of Science and Technology, Northeast Normal University, Jilin University, Tianjin University and Nankai University.

 

The information sessions provided participating students with comprehensive information about CUHK's graduate Programmes as well as the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme, which drew more than 400 teachers and students to attend. The event not only provided a great opportunity for mainland students to learn more about the graduate Programmes offered by the University, but also showcased CUHK's academic and research achievements in Mainland China.
