The State Key Laboratory (SKL) of Oncology in South China Retreat Conference 2014 was held in Nansha from 26 to 27 April 2014. It was the 6th retreat conference since the establishment of the SKL of Oncology in South China (Partner Laboratory in The Chinese University of Hong Kong) in collaboration with Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) in 2006.

In the opening ceremony, Prof. Anthony Chan, Associate Director of the Partner Laboratory in CUHK stated in his speech the strategic importance of the annual retreat and highlighted the success of the partnership with SYSU in the past years.  The conference gathered over 220 researchers and students from SYSU and CUHK to exchange recent research achievements and brainstorm new ideas in the area of common cancers in Southern China.  Forty-eight posters from CUHK and SYSU were presented. Prof. Lo Kwok Wai, Prof. Tao Qian, Prof. Allen Chan and Prof. Stephen Chan of CUHK gave presentation on their latest research work at the conference.

This annual exchange activity started in 2009 helped strengthen mutual understanding between SYSU and CUHK on progressive efforts in striving for research excellence.
