A delegation led by Mr. LI Qinglong, Deputy Director of Astronaut Center of China (ACC) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 15 July 2015. Together with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, Mr. Li officiated at the establishment ceremony of the CUHK - ACC Joint Research Center for Health Maintenance of Musculoskeletal System on Space Medicine.
Participating guests included Mr. Liu Zhi Ming, Deputy Inspector of the Department of Educational, Scientific and Technological Affairs, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR; Professor Li Yinghui, Director of the State Key Laboratory of Space Medicine Fundamentals and Application; Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Jack Cheng, Chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology of CUHK, and representatives from ACC and CUHK. A collaboration agreement was concluded followed by a plaque-unveiling ceremony for the establishment.
During the ceremony, Prof. Sung expressed his gratitude to ACC for its support to the joint initiative and stated that the establishment will provide a platform to consolidate collaboration between scholars of CUHK and ACC, fostering partnership efforts and opportunities.
An academic symposium on intelligent robotic technology and stem cell research was held after the ceremony. Representatives from both sides presented reports and shared experience on their respective progress and accomplishments in relevant research areas.
Scholars from ACC and CUHK have been collaborating closely during the past years. The establishment of the joint center will further enhance the partnership between the two parties on space medicine. It is believed that the platform will facilitate the collaborations on health maintenance of musculoskeletal system for the development space engineering in China.
