PINE League Student Choir Festival

The Pan-Asia International Network for Elites (PINE) League organized a Student Choir Festival on 24 – 28 November at Tsinghua University.  A total of 124 students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), National Taiwan University (NTU), Peking University (PKU) and Tsinghua University gathered at Mong Man Wai Concert Hall for the event, performing classical and popular tracks from home and abroad, offering wonderful musical delights to the audience.

Participants from CUHK include 24 students of the Lee Woo Sing College Student Choir and five university staff members.  CUHK students sowed seeds of happiness in their individual performance session through a range of musical works in such forms as instrumental accompaniment and acapella.

Students of the four institutions created the climax at the final group singing session with the two tracks of "The Youth Dance" and "Nanping Evening Bells".  After the performace students also took the opportunity to visit Tsinghua University and Peking University, together with famous places in the capital city.  Participating students made good friends with one another, enhancing mutual understanding.

Co-established in February 2016 among CUHK, NTU, PKU, Tsinghua University and the University of Hong Kong, the PINE League, with the acronym same as the name of the evergreen pine tree which symbolizes longevity and endurance in Chinese culture, is committed to facilitating exchange and interaction among students of member institutions, particularly through various sports, arts and academic activities.  Previous events among the institutions include sports match, student choir performance and Chinese debate competition.  Special thanks go to Hong Kong Airlines and GS Foundation for their generous support for this delegation to Beijing.

CUHK Basketball Team Joins  Friendly Matches in Ningbo

The men's basketball team of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) participated in a series of friendly matches at Ningbo University (NBU) on 26 – 30 October.  Apart from the 16-member delegation from CUHK, NBU invited squads from Tsinghua University and Central South University to join the matches, celebrating the commissioning of a large campus sports complex on campus.  The matches have attracted an audience of over 4000 spectators.

A total of 15 CUHK students took part in the event, which comprises six matches among the four participating institutions, plus a curtain-raising match between CUHK and the host.  Sparing no efforts in the competition while learning from one another, participating students enhanced their friendship and mutual understanding.  Feedback from student representative can be viewed here.

CUHK has been maintaining close collaborative relationship with NBU.  A memorandum of understanding on establishing the Li Dak Sum Academic Exchange Fund for collaboration was signed with NBU in 2011 to support academic and student exchange, as well as research and training between the two universities.
