CU Students Join UK-China Higher Education Young Talent Alliance 2020 Virtual Summit

The Higher Education Young Talent Alliance 2020 Virtual Summit hosted by the University of Exeter and supported by the China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education was held during 24-27 August 2020 online. Five students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) joined this international summit together with around 160 students from 16 universities in China and UK, among which 8 universities are alliance members. Professor Mark Goodwin, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Global Engagement) of the University of Exeter, and Professor Yan Haiping, Chair of the Alliance Executive Council and Tsinghua Academy Class Professor of Cross-cultural Studies, co-hosted the opening ceremony.

The virtual summit addressed three themes including Digital Humanities and Special Collections, Intercultural Communication, and International Cultural Exchange. Scholars from UK and China shared their extensive knowledge on related topics. University of Exeter drew upon the digital expertise, special collections, and literary archives to provide participants with valuable insights into interactions between different cultures. Students exchanged views concerning digital humanities practices to develop a deeper understanding of the complementary direction of humanities and technology.

The China-UK Humanities Alliance for Higher Education was initiated by Tsinghua University with the aim of increasing and consolidating academic exchanges between Chinese and British universities through cross-cultural dialogue and collaboration in the field of the humanities in 2016. CUHK is the only founding member from Hong Kong in the Alliance and hosted the China-UK Humanities Annual Forum in 2018. Please click here to learn more about the Alliance.
