The "Study of the Pattern of Hidden Elderly in Public Estates" focuses on a group of elderly residents of Cheung Wah Estate, Fanling. Through community investigation and referral of social workers, project members selected 19 hidden elderly to have in-depth interviews, and will subsequently try to apply different means of intervention to encouraging them to be engaged in an active community life. In mid-November of last year, members assisted in the "Zero-waste Community Lunch", which was co-organised by a food saving organisation, ChariGreen, and Caritas Fanling Chan Chun Ha Secondary School. Participation of over 100 elderly was drawn. Such an involvement has facilitated members' exploration of ways to develop a community network which will best accommodate the needs of the elderly.
As for the "Study of the Child Caretaker in Grass-roots Families", project members were divided into groups to interview 10 grassroots child caretakers residing in the sub-divided flats in Kwun Tong and to conduct individual home visits. They also took part in the "Caretaker Experiential Days" last month to gain first-hand experience of the challenges encountered by the caretakers. Members will soon carry out preliminary data analysis and have in-depth interviews with the study subjects.
