New Asia Lectures on Confucianism 2013/14

With the rapid growth in the Chinese economy, there has been a growing interest in understanding our traditional culture. In response to this trend, the New Asia College, with generous support from the Moonchu Foundation, established the "New Asia Lectures on Confucianism" in 2013. Each year, a distinguished scholar is invited to the College for around two weeks to deliver a series of three public lectures on Confucianism, with the aim of arousing interest among academics and the general public.

The 1st New Asia Lecture on Confucianism was held in mid-November 2013 with Professor Tu Wei-ming as the keynote speaker. He is Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University, Research Professor at Harvard University and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Professor Tu delivered three public talks during his visit: "My Embodied Understanding of the New Asia Spirit" "The Significance of the Confucian Humanistic Spirit" and "The Confucian Critical Spirit—The Meaning of Intellectual Inquiry". On 15 November, a welcome dinner in honor of Professor Tu was held at Yun Chi Hsien.

Apart from the public talks, Professor Tu also joined a lunch gathering with our undergraduates and postgraduates of the Department of Philosophy and History on 19 November  at Yun Chi Hsien. Students benefited immensely from his sharing.
