Congratulations to Science students, Lam Chun Yin of Department of Physics and Wong Chak Kui of Department of Chemistry, who were awarded Innovation and Technology Scholarship Award 2018. Both of them have been awarded with a scholarship of up to HK$150,000. More importantly, they are supported to attach to one or more of the elite programmes including Overseas/Mainland Attachment Programme, Mentorship Programme, Local Internship Programme and Service Project Programme.

Under the Scheme, each distinguished science undergraduate awardee will be given opportunity to take internships in local enterprises and invited to participate in community activities relating to innovation and technology. Their mentors, who are outstanding personalities in the students' related field of studies, will provide advice and guidance to students not only throughout the Scheme period but thereafter.

The scheme aims to help students to widen their international exposure, gaining industry experience, nurture their passion and commitment towards the social and technological development in industries in the future.

Awardees shared their feelings here:

Lam Chun Yin

It is my honour to be conferred the Innovation and Technology Scholarship. The scholarship supports me to take a summer research internship at Meteorology Institute, LMU Munich, Germany. This training has given me a hands-on experience of how research projects are being executed and helped me in planning my future career path towards research. I would like to thank my referee, Prof. Xu Lei, who has given me much encouragement and resourceful advice throughout the screening and interview process."

Wong Chak Kui

Attracted by the opportunity to experience research in overseas universities, I applied for the Innovation and Technology Scholarship. I was glad to have been selected for the scholarship. I would like to thank Professor Steve Tse for his invaluable guidance and advice, as well as Professor Jonathan Doye for offering me a summer research position at the University of Oxford. I am currently at Oxford enjoying my research journey here. I believe that this experience will prepare me well for my further studies and research in chemistry.

Professor Tse Ying Lung Steve, Professor Lee Hung Kay, Professor Xu Lei and Professor Wong Hoi Ying were in attendance at the ceremony to honor the students' achievements.
