Let's find out more about these winning projects and the sharing from the teams:

Category: Entrepreneurship

I) Project Title: Self-sanitizing Door Handle
   Awardee: Wong Sum Ming
(BSCI, Year 2)

The project aims to create an effective self-disinfecting door handle designed to prevent transmission of harmful pathogens in public places. It is a system of placing reflection of internal UV light in a cylindrical transparent door handle coated in titanium dioxide (TiO2) by photocatalyzed activity to effectively and safely decompose pathogens. In the long run, the team would like to bring photocatalytic coating technologies and nanomaterials to a wide range of daily-life applications and give back to society. The team also expresses heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Jimmy Yu for his generous support of providing necessary laboratory assistance for the project.

II) Project Title: Mushroom for the NeXt
    Awardee:   Lai Sok Lan
(FNSC, Year 4)

Tam Ka Wing (FNSC, Year 4)
Tang Hoi Yan (FNSC, Year 4)

With the support of a social project "Mushroom-X", the team aims to arouse public awareness, embrace food authenticity and reduce food waste by using mushroom as the engagement vehicle via exhibitions and education workshops.  Teammates showcased the project in laboratory, food expo and peace day, where they gained a lot of experience in promoting the importance and impacts of mushroom. They wish to engage more youngsters to promote the importance of fungi in the ecosystem and show the beauty and diversity of mushroom through experiential learning in order to raise the public awareness on sustainability. The team was pleased to have the support from Prof. Kwan Hoi Shan, who encouraged them to participate in different entrepreneurship competitions.

Category: Innovation

Project Title: The detection of content  of DEHP in food by the combination of NADP/NADPH Assay Kit and Enzymes
Awardee: Lim Lok Ping
(CMBI, Year 4)

Wong Sum Ming (Left) and his teammate showcased their invention - Self-Sanitising Door Handle in the award presentation ceremony.

The effective Self-Disinfecting door handle is designed to prevent transmission of harmful pathogens in public places.

Prof. Kwan Hoi Shan (2nd from left) who has rich experience in mushroom research, supports the team to participate in different entrepreneurship competitions.
