Dear students,

The North Korea nuclear crisis, the tragedy in Myanmar's Rakhine state, the mass shooting in Las Vegas and the spate of terrorist attacks in Europe etc. have refueled debate on whether more stringent measures should be taken to tackle military hegemony and gun violence.  It seems that to stay at peace through diplomatic channels and pre-emptive moves will no longer be a prime choice.  Nonetheless, could working on the matter itself solve the problem at its root?  I believe many of you will find education, in a broad sense, has a big part to play…… because it deals with one's mind.

I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development aims not only to facilitate our students in acquiring professional skills and cognitive knowledge of social issues and civic affairs, but more importantly to build their character and values especially in turbulent times.  All along we have been trying to instill in students a sense of commitment in life, a show of respect for nature, a desire to serve and a taste of all-round development.  While you are forced to face hegemony or violence in everyday life, you may have many frustrations and constraints.  With the I·CARE spirit, I am confident you will be able to find ways to transcend or overcome them.

Sincerely yours,

Irene Ng
Director
I·CARE Centre for Whole-person Development
