Amah Rock Hike
To give students a break from schoolwork, Resident Tutors Peggy WOH and Nicholas HO took a group of students to a 2.5-hour hike at Amah Rock in Shatin on 20 November 2021. The hikers had a chance to enjoy the autumn breeze and beautiful greenery along the way. The geological wonder—Amah Rock—was most breathtaking in that it resembles a woman carrying a baby on her back. Rumour has it that the woman climbed the hill every day, carrying her son, to watch for her husband to return from the sea, not knowing he had already been drowned. She was turned into a rock by the Goddess of the Sea to glorify her faithfulness and to unite with her husband in spirit. This legend behind Amah Rock is as captivating as the shape of the rock itself.
Cupcake Treat for Flourishing First Year @ CUHK
As the semester was coming to a close, a promotional van of Flourishing First Year @ CUHK of OSA went to the Piazza of CW Chu College on 24 November 2021 to distribute 50 Christmas cupcakes to our freshmen. The cupcakes expressed the goodwill of the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) for First Year students to prosper and flourish.
Staff Appreciation Day
The Committee on Positive Workplace and Staff Development of CUHK organised the Staff Appreciation Day on 10 December 2021. On that day, our College staff members were treated to a nice lunch in Chong Kin Wo Hall, and a cotton eco bag was given as a gift. Messages on spreading positivity in the workplace were printed on the bags to bring home the idea of the growth mindset.
Term 2, 2021–22
Board Game Gathering
Board games is a great activity for getting together and stretching the mind. With the commencement of the new semester, our Resident Tutor hosted a small gathering on 19 January 2022 to introduce some table-top games and play with fellow members. About 20 participants took part, playing Monopoly, Uno, Chess, Texas Hold'em poker and so on. The residents were thrilled to have such an activity for relaxation. The Warden also joined the event.
Lunar New Year DIY Handicraft
A DIY handicraft workshop to decorate the 6/F pantry was carried out on 26 January 2022. Students came and helped the Resident Tutor of 6/F to decorate the floor with red packets and delicate Chinese New Year handicraft. A candy box in bright colours was set at the pantry for sharing festive food with residents.
Celebrating the Year of Tiger with the Warden-RT Team
The celebration was held online on 28 January 2021 with 27 participants, four Resident Tutors and the Warden. During the event, Resident Tutor Adam HUANG demonstrated Fai Chun writing—a kind of Chinese calligraphy with blessings for the Chinese New Year. Resident Tutor Peggy WOH shared with her College mates the way Lunar New Year was celebrated in Indonesia. WAHYUDI Vania (Year 4, Food and Nutritional Science) joined in by talking about what she had experienced in Indonesia.
