Prof Wai-Yee Chan, College Master, gave a welcome address of love and gratitude. He praised the Founding Master for his relentless devotion to the College, a trait that has played a crucial role in the formation of the intimate community that students and teachers benefit from today. Such a great teacher as he, who consistently lives up to the College vision, has inspired many, with words and in deeds, to follow in his footsteps, Prof Chan acclaimed as he made Prof Young his role model.
Prof Wong Suk Ying, Founding Dean of Students, delivered a vote of thanks. She related the many occasions when she had worked with Prof Young, from his time as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University, to his eventual mastership at CW Chu College, during which she witnessed how this revered teacher exhibited extraordinary diligence and determination. She thanked Prof Young from the bottom of her heart, for the care he had taken to ensure students' benefits are prioritised, for the optimism he had embraced in challenging circumstances, and for the intellectual prowess he demonstrated in teaching and in management.
On this happy occasion, Prof Kenneth Young shared his thoughts. He bid everyone to celebrate, more than to fare him well, the things that the College as a whole has achieved over the years, made possible by a shared vision that binds different perspectives. He related some of his earliest encounters with the University, and is pleased to be able to play a role in its development. Having retired, he still spends the work week at the University, shared between his offices at the College and the Physics Department. He looks forward to continuing his contributions to the College and being with the University.
On behalf of the College, fellow alumni, teachers and students, the alumni presented to Prof Young a photo album with appreciation messages from alumni and students.
