Following the last career planning talk held in January 2016, the SBS Postgraduate Student Association (PSA) successfully organized another career planning talk with Dr. Alan L.Y. Pang as the speaker on 3 May 2016.
Dr. Alan Pang received his postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the United States after he had completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2000. Having been a Senior Research Fellow and a tenured Biologist at NIH for several years, Dr. Pang moved back to Hong Kong last year to take up an appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of a biotech startup company focusing on research and development of human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) located at the Hong Kong Science Park. The SBS PSA had great pleasure to have invited him to give us a talk on the topic "What you may want to know about a career in biomedical research vs biotech industry". In his talk, Dr. Pang shared with the participants, especially our postgraduate students, his experience in biomedical research derived from his previous positions at NIH as well as the opportunities of biotech industry in Hong Kong. The valuable advice of Dr. Pang will definitely facilitate our postgraduate students in making wise decision when planning for their future career paths.
