Eight members of the CUHK Bridge to China Team, together with members of the "Wu Zhi Qiao Student Team" of The University of Hong Kong, Tongji University, and Kunming University of Science and Technology as well as 11 secondary school students from "Project WeCan", visited Meile Village, Lijiang, Yunnan on 3-11 August of this year. Besides footbridge building, several enhancement works were carried out. They included constructing an incinerator, erecting awnings, installing solar street lights, decorating the walls and marking standard lines of a basketball court in the playground of the village's primary school. A staff member of this Centre also joined the whole trip serving as tutor.
With the concerted efforts of all members, the construction project has come to fruition. The Completion Ceremony was officiated by the delegation of guests including, among others, Professor Joseph Sung, Co-Chairman of the Steering Committee for Promoting Personal Development through Social and Civic Engagement of this University. After all, the 65 project members have gained a precious opportunity to engage themselves in real social services. They also went through a meaningful journey by community life and collaboration.
