"CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Ceremony • Walkathon and Carnival" was held on 27 January, marking the beginning of celebration of the University's 50th birthday. Over 40 students and members of S. H. Ho College joined the SHHO Walkathon Team to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of CUHK together with 3,000 guests, alumni, staff and students. SHHO's lion dance team together with the other 8 "lions", representing the nine Colleges, performed lion dance to wish CUHK an energetic future.

During the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK Prof. Joseph Sung thanked all who had taken part in organizing and supported the 50th anniversary celebrations, and invited participation in the CU50 • Care programme, which encourages each CUHK member to undertake 50 hours of volunteer service in 2013 in the hope of bringing together all members to share achievements with the community at large.

The kick-off ceremony was followed by the walkathon with the aim of raising funds for the I • CARE programme. A total of over HK$2 million has been raised during this event. The fund will be used to help students develop a long-term interest and commitment in serving local, regional and international communities by integrating their specialized knowledge with social and civic engagements.
