More than 560 students from 19 tertiary institutions with 188 projects participated this year. CUHK won the highest number of awards amongst the participating tertiary institutions where 16 teams received 18 awards.

I) Project Title: Self-sanitizing Door Handle
Awardee: Wong Sum Ming (BSCI, Year 2)
The project aims to create an effective self-disinfecting door handle designed to prevent transmission of harmful pathogens in public places. It is a system of placing reflection of internal UV light in a cylindrical transparent door handle coated in titanium dioxide (TiO2) by photocatalyzed activity to effectively and safely decompose pathogens. In the long run, the team would like to bring photocatalytic coating technologies and nanomaterials to a wide range of daily-life applications and give back to society.The team also expresses heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Jimmy Yu for his generous support of providing necessary laboratory assistance for the project.
II) Project Title: Mushroom for the NeXt

With the support of a social project "Mushroom-X", the team aims to arouse public awareness, embrace food authenticity and reduce food waste by using mushroom as the engagement vehicle via exhibitions and education workshops. Teammates showcased the project in laboratory, food expo and peace day, where they gained a lot of experience in promoting the importance and impacts of mushroom. They wish to engage more youngsters to promote the importance of fungi in the ecosystem and show the beauty and diversity of mushroom through experiential learning in order to raise the public awareness on sustainability. The team was pleased to have the support from Prof. Kwan Hoi Shan, who encouraged them to participate in different entrepreneurship competitions.
