Professor Wai-Yee Chan assumes Mastership

Prof Wai-Yee Chan, Professor and Director of the School of Biomedical Sciences, has been appointed Master of CW Chu College for a period of four years, with effect from 1 January 2017. The College is delighted to welcome Prof Wai-Yee Chan.

Prof Chan's installation was held on the 17 January 2017, at the College's Third High Table Dinner of the 2016–17 academic year. Prof Chan received the College emblem from Prof Kenneth Young, Founding Master, symbolising the handover. In his speech, Prof Chan cited the College motto, Cultus et Beneficentia (cultivating oneself and benefitting the community), and acclaimed the legacy of Dr Chu Ching-wen, whose philanthropic efforts had nurtured a whole generation of Chu Scholars, who in turn made possible the establishment and development of CW Chu College.

In expressing his gratitude to Prof Kenneth Young, the Founding Master, for building a solid foundation for the College, he said, 'Prof Young's selflessness, unconditional care and devotion to seek the best for students exemplify for me what an educator should be. He truly perpetuate the spirit of Dr Chu. I am both humbled and excited to have the opportunity to carry the torch lit by Prof Young.'
