Cross-Strait Green University Consortium

The ceremony for the establishment of Cross-Strait Green University Consortium was held in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 31 May 2011. Guests officiating at the ceremony included Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Chen Jun, President of Nanjing University; Prof. Chiang Wei-Ling, President of Taiwan Central University; and Dr. Kitty Poon, Acting Secretary for the Environment, HKSAR.

Visit of Vice-Minister of The Ministry of Education

On 19 May 2011, a 7-member delegation led by Dr. Du Zhanyuan, Vice-Minister of The Ministry of Education of China (MOE) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The purpose was to understand the teaching and research development of the University.

Visit of Vice-Minister of Education and Director of The Centre for Training and Testing Putonghua Teachers and Speakers

Ms. Li Weihong, Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Education and Director of The Centre for Training and Testing Putonghua Teachers and Speakers, The State Language and Writing Commission (SLWC) led a delegation to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to attend "The Forum Celebrating the 15th Anniversary of National Putonghua Proficiency Test in Hong Kong". Delegates include Ms. Yin Xiaojing, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR (LOCPG) and Mr. Pang Yonghua, Director General, Education, Science & Technology Department, LOCPG.

2011 Academia Sinica Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series Successfully Launched

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) launched the first Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians Visit Programme to establish closer partnership with AS. Under this programme, three academicians from AS visited CUHK from 3 to 6 May for academic exchange. They were Prof. Wang Fan-Sen, Vice-President of AS; Prof. Tao Jing-Shen, Fellow, Institute of History and Philology, AS; and Prof. Hsing I-Tien, Distinguished Research Fellow, Institute of History and Philology, AS. During the visit, they delivered public lectures at the Lecture Series by Academicians and met with CUHK representatives to discuss collaboration opportunities.

CUHK Executive Delegation to Beijing and Tianjin

Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) led a 14-member delegation to visit Beijing University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University from 17 to 19 May 2011. The delegation composed of senior executives from various units of CUHK including Information Technology Services Centre, Personnel Office, Bursary, Communications and Public Relations Office, Office of Institutional Advancement, Alumni Affairs Office, Office of Admissions and Financial Aid, Office of Student Affairs, Registry, University Safety and Environment Office, and Office of Academic Links (China).

State Key Laboratory in Oncology in South China Strategic Summit

State Key Laboratory (SKL) in Oncology in South China Strategic Summit was held on 16 April 2011. Twenty key investigators from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Sun-Yat Sen University (SYSU) gathered in Shenzhen to exchange research ideas as well as identifying projects of collaboration from basic research to clinical trials in the coming years. The summit was an occasion to review the progress of the SKL and to do planning in strengthening its position among the existing SKLs. It also served as a platform for strategic planning in preparation for the evaluation to be conducted by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of China.

Writers @CUHK

The second Writers @CUHK Programme was held in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 9 May 2011. The programme was co-organized by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature of CUHK and the Chinese Writers Press Group with the support from the Office of Academic Links (China) of CUHK. Renowned Chinese writers, Mr. Bi Yufei, and Ms. Xu Xiaobin were invited to the University.

Visit of Former President of Shenzhen University

Prof. Xie Wexin, Former President of Shenzhen University led a 37-member delegation to CUHK on 15 May. The delegation met with Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost, and Prof. Wing Wong, Dean of Graduate School to understand the graduate education of the University.
