Academic Symposium on Condensed Matter and Optical Physics 2009, co-organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), was held from 14 to 20 December.

2009 Cross-Straits Forum for Academic Exchange Heads was held in Hong Kong and Macau from 7 to 10 December. With the support from Division of Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, the forum was co-hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The University of Hong Kong, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong and University of Macau.

Accompanied by Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Prof. Xu Yangsheng, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor on 14 December, Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), visited the Ministry of Education, where he held talks with Mr. Yuan Guiren, Minister of Education.

An 11-member delegation from Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation, led by Dr. Wu Ching-ji, Minister of Education, Taiwan, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 7 December. The delegation consisted of representatives from Executive Yuan and Ministry of Education of Taiwan.

Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor Designate of the Chinese University of Hong Kong participated in the Cross-Strait University Summit held in Macau on 21 December.

A delegation from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) attended the Workshop for Directors of Confucius Institute in Beijing on 14 December. The workshop, organized by the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban) was attended by 200 directors of the Confucius Institute around the world.

Prof. Huang Jin, President of China University of Political Science and Law, led a five-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 11 December to expand cooperation.

A 5-member delegation from the Beijing Institute of Technology, led by Prof. Guo Dacheng, Chancellor of the Institute, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 9 December for academic exchange.

Mr. Hu Jinjun, Deputy Director General of Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 5 December to receive updates on the development of technological and cultural education in Hong Kong.
