Participants of the Meeting and the Forum comprised 12 member university leaders/presidents, including Prof. Qin Shaode, CPC Committee Secretary of Fudan University; President Prof. Yang Yuliang of Fudan University; President Prof. Yang Wei of Zhejiang University; Prof. Ma Dexiu, CPC Committee Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University; President Prof. Zheng Nanning of Xi'an Jiaotong University; President Prof. Gu Binglin of Tsinghua University; President Prof. Zhou Qifeng of Peking University; Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tsui Lap-chee of The University of Hong Kong; President Prof. Tony Chan of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology; President Prof. Hou Jianguo of the University of Science and Technology of China; President Prof. Wang Shuguo of the Harbin Institute of Technology; and Vice-President Prof. Lu Jiang of Nanjing University.
The theme of the Presidents' Forum this year was "University Governance" and the university heads gave speeches on the topic and took part in the subsequent discussions. In the Forum Prof. Joseph Sung delivered a speech entitled "Energy and Environment: Role of University" to explain the policy of energy and environment of CUHK. The university leaders shared their views in relation to the strategies and directions of university governance, and held discussions on the management and the future development of AUPC.
Besides the AUPC Annual Meeting and the Presidents' Forum, Prof. Joseph Sung also attended the "2010 Symposium on Building World-class Universities" with the C9 universities, and a forum co-convened by Fudan University and the University of Birmingham. The theme of the symposium was how to build world-class university on China model. In this symposium, Prof. Joseph Sung gave a presentation on liberal arts education in university. The forum was held with the aim to seek optimal relationship in pursuit of excellence in universities around the world. It brought together representatives from universities in UK, US, Canada and Australia.
The Association of University Presidents of China was founded in November 1997 with the objective to enhance the academic linkage and achieve academic excellence. Meetings and forums for member universities were organized since the establishment of the Association. The meeting in 2008 was held on CUHK campus.
