Director of the Chinese Astronauts Research and Training Center Visits CUHK

A 6-member delegation led by Prof. Chen Shanguang, Director of the Chinese Astronauts Research and Training Center (ACC) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 13 October 2010. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK warmly welcomed the delegation and an agreement for academic collaboration was signed. CUHK and ACC agreed in principle to establish a joint laboratory and to embark on collaboration in Space Medico-engineering. Prof. Qin Ling, Director of Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory of CUHK, was appointed by ACC as Special-Term Professor of the State Key Laboratory of Space Medicine Fundamentals and Application.

During the visit, Prof. Chen Shanguang and the delegates met with CUHK senior management members, including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Prof. Xu Yangshang, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor. CUHK representatives introduced to the delegation the University's latest development, its outstanding research areas and CUHK's development in Shenzhen. Prof. Chen Shanguang delivered a public lecture on Theory and Practice of Space Medico-engineering. The lecture attracted scholars and students from Engineering, Medicine and Science departments. 

 

The delegates next visited research facilities of Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, Chinese Medicine and Space and Earth Information Science, where they met with directors and academic experts of the related laboratories and research centers to learn more about the latest research development of CUHK in science and medicine.

 

Prof. Chen was impressed by CUHK's rapid development and research excellence, and expressed his hope to foster ties between the two parties. Since the signing of the Letter of Intent on Collaboration in 2006, CUHK and ACC have started collaboration projects in Chinese Medicine, Biomedical Engineering and Orthopaedics. The visit further strengthened CUHK's linkage with ACC and scaled new collaboration with specific projects.
