7. Features: New Student E-mail System - Exchange Online

Students, are you waiting long for a larger mailbox with multiple functions?

As mentioned in ITSC eNewsletter Issue 154, a new e-mail service is coming in parallel with the present e-mail service CUHK Webmail in this November. In this episode, you will learn what it is, and what you have to do after the service launch.

Q1. What is Exchange Online?
A. An e-mail service running in the public cloud offered under CUHK Office 365.

Q2. Who can use Exchange Online?
A. All CUHK students with CUHK Office 365 account registered.

Q3. What's special about Exchange Online?
A. Students will have a 50GB mailbox each with all basic and featured e-mail functions support together with collaboration tools including calendar and tasks list. It will become a lifelong service and available for graduates, starting from 2015 summer.

Q4. What's the e-mail address in Exchange Online?
A. The same as CUHK Office 365 login ID in form of <Your-Student-ID>@link.cuhk.edu.hk.

Q5. How would the University contact students? Through CUHK Webmail or new Exchange Online?
A. The University still sends e-mails to students' CUHK Webmail mailbox until further notice.

The new Exchange Online service will be run in parallel with CUHK Webmail. Once your CUHK Webmail receives a new e-mail, a copy will be forwarded to your Exchange Online mailbox. But the forwarding will stop if your CUHK Webmail mailbox is full.

The CUHK Webmail for students will be decommissioned and replaced by Exchange Online in summer 2015.

Q6. Does this email service extend to staff, student organization and department / project group?
A.  No. They will remain using CUHK Webmail.

Q7. Can I have a peek of the new service?
A. Sure, you can have an overview for the new service from Microsoft Quick Start Guide.

Q8. How will the new service roll out?
A. The new service will be rolled out in early Nov. Details will be announced to the University through CU Mass Mail and ITSC homepage during the week of 20 Oct.  Stay with us!

Students can try the new e-mail system in early Nov
