From 24 to 26 November, Prof. Wang Guangtao, Member of the Standing Committee and Chairman of the Environmental Protection and Resources Conservation Committee of the National People's Congress of PRC, and Former Minister of Construction, visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for academic exchange with academics, especially from the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science and Center for Housing Innovations.
Prof. Wang was warmly welcomed by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. He also met with Prof. Henry Wong, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Paul Lee, Dean of Social Science; Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, Professor of Economics, Ralph and Claire Landau, and representatives from Faculty of Social Science and its constituent departments as well as related research centers. Prof. Wang attended the Academic Conference on Digital Metropolitan Construction and Management Studies held in CUHK, and visited the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, and the Center for Housing Innovations to understand the latest projects and development of the units. He shared his academic thoughts and views on urban planning with postgraduate students during the visits. Taking the opportunity in CUHK, Prof. Wang delivered a public lecture on "Current Situation and Strategy of the Development of Low-carbon Economy in China". Base on the carbon credit approach for mitigating carbon emission under the context of climate changes, the lecture pointed out key issues in developing low-carbon economy in China. Prof. Wang also introduced the strategies of promoting low-carbon economy by the Standing Committee of National People's Congress in order to facing the problems of climate change. The lecture was held in CUHK Graduate Law Centre in Admiralty, and attracted scholars and students from CUHK, and relevant professionals and government officials in the field to attend. |
