On 16 January 2012, a 6-member delegation led by Ms. Tu Huan, Director of Science & Technology Innovation Division, Science, Industry, Trade and Information Technology Commission of Shenzhen Municipality Government (SZSITIC), visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Ms Tu and the delegates from SZSITIC introduced the policy of Shenzhen Government on research and technology development for China Links Seminar jointly organized by Office of Academic Links (China) and Shenzhen Development Office this year.
Apart from giving information of the latest development in Shenzhen, the delegation delivered talks on a variety of policies, which include Director Ms. Tu Huan's overview regarding Shenzhen Government's support in science and technology innovation during the 12th Five-Year-Plan period, Vice Director Ms. Chen Xianmei's presentation on relevant funding in developing basic research and Shenzhen key laboratories, and the talk given by Mr. Xi Weizhong on the "Peacock Campaign" in attracting overseas talents. The seminar attracted more than 90 academics and members from Faculties of Engineering, Medicine, Science and CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute to attend. The delegates also took the opportunity to learn more about the University's recent accomplishments in science and technology during the visit. They met with Prof. Xu Yangsheng Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Prof. Liang Bin, Executive Vice President of CUHK Shenzhen Research Institute, and representatives from Engineering, Science and Medicine to enhance mutual understanding. Tours were then arranged to visit research facilities in the University, such as the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK), Institute of Network Coding, Video over Internet and Wireless Technologies Laboratory, Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Institute of Digestive Disease, and Musculo-skeletal Research Laboratory, where the delegates were given information of the updated research and technology development of CUHK. The visit and the seminar enabled the CUHK community a deeper understanding of the recent development and funding opportunities in Shenzhen.
