The 8th CAE Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) held the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) Academicians Visit Programme cum Lecture Series from 8 to 11 December 2015 on campus. Four distinguished academicians were invited to CUHK this year, including Prof. Wei Ziqin (from the Division of Information and Electronic Engineering), Prof. Ding Yihui (from the Division of Environment, Light & Textile Industries Engineering), Prof. Ding Wenjiang (from the Division of Chemical, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering) and Prof. Kang Shaozhong (from the Division of Agriculture). They delivered public lectures and met with CUHK representatives to discuss collaboration opportunities in earth science, materials engineering and agriculture.
The delegates were warmly received by CUHK senior management members including Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Prof Benjamin Wah, Provost; Prof. Fok Tai Fai, Prof. Fanny Cheung and Prof. Isabella Poon, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Prof CHIU Chi Yue,Dean of Social Science; Prof Philip Chiu, Assistant Dean of Medicine and Prof. Song Xinyuan, Assistant Dean of Science.
The four academicians visited the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, Department of Geography and Resource Management, the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability, the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change, the Orthopadeic Learning Centre, the Musculoskeletal Research Laboratory, the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences, State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (Partner Laboratory in The Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Central Laboratory for Plant Genomics Research, where they met with relevant faculty members to exchange ideas and explore possibilities for further research collaboration.
On 9 December, the academicians delivered public lectures to share their experience and expertise in their respective fields of research with nearly two hundred people including CUHK staff and students, as well as members of the general public. The CAE Academicians Visit Programme was launched by the University in 2008 to promote academic exchange with CAE and enhance research competitiveness. CUHK-Taiwan Cheng Kung University Joint Seminar
An 8-member delegation from Taiwan Cheng Kung University (NCKU), led by Prof. Terence Tai (Director of Research Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences) and Prof. Lu Feng-hwa (Chairperson of Institute of Gerontology) visited CUHK from 20 to 22 December. The delegates visited the Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, Institute of Ageing and Centre for Positive Ageing to learn about CUHK's facilities and development of relevant teaching and research work. A joint seminar was held during the visit to explore collaboration opportunities.
CUHK representatives attending the seminar include Prof. Woo Jean (Director of CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing), Prof. Helene Fung (Executive Director of CUHK-NCKU Joint Research Centre for Positive Social Science), Prof. Timothy Kwok (Deputy Director of CUHK Jockey Club Institute of Ageing), and Prof. Wong Hung (Department of Social Work). Both sides presented their research work and discussed further opportunities in joint projects and interdisciplinary collaborations.
NCKU is one of the University's important partners. Both universities have carried out a wide range of collaborative projects in academic research and student interflow activities. The joint seminar was held to strengthen the ties between the two universities in new research areas of aging.
