Visit of Mr. Lu Mai, Secretary General of China Development Research Foundation

 

Mr. Lu Mai, Secretary General of China Development Research Foundation visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 4 December 2013 to learn about research development and executive training programs in CUHK, and to explore collaboration opportunities. The visit was accompanied by Mr. Anthony Neoh, Council Member and Member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Law.

 

Mr. Lu was greeted by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor; Pro-Vice-Chancellors Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung of CUHK. At the meeting, Prof. Fanny Cheung introduced to Mr. Lu the development of Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies and its executive training programs. Mr. Lu also visited the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science where he met with Prof. Huang Bo of the Institute and Prof. Leung Yee, Director of the Institute of Future Cities to understand the latest research projects in earth science, urban studies and geography in CUHK. Under the guidance of the University Gallery Steering Committee Chairman and Dean of Faculty of Arts, Prof. Leung Yuen-sang, Mr. Lu also visited the University Gallery to learn more about the history and development of the University.

 

The visit provided an opportunity for Mr. Lu to obtain in-depth information of the development of CUHK, its executive training programs as well as the research achievements, and paved the way of future collaboration.

President of Chinese Academy of Sciences Visits CUHK

Prof. Bai Chunli, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) visited The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 5 December 2013. The aim of this visit was to receive updates of CUHK to enhance mutual understanding for sustainable partnership development.

The delegation was warmly received by Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. P.C. Leung, Director of Institute of Chinese Medicine and Deputy Director of State Key Laboratory of Phytochemistry and Plant Resources in West China (CUHK); Prof. Xie Zuowei, Associate Dean of Science and Associate Director of State Key laboratory of Synthetic Chemistry; Prof. Nelson Tang, Associate Director of CAS Kunming Institute of Zoology-CUHK Joint Laboratory of Bio-resources and Molecular Research of Common Diseases; Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Co-Director of CUHK-CAS Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health Joint Research Laboratory on Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine; and Prof. Lin Ge, Director of CUHK-CAS Joint Research Laboratory for Promoting Globalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

CUHK representatives gave reports to President Bai about the recent development of the University and the research achievements of the CUHK-CAS joint research units. Discussions on the progress of the joint units were held. The delegation next paid visit to the joint laboratories between CUHK and CAS housed under the School of Biomedical Sciences for a closer look of the recent research projects and meeting with relevant members to enhance communication.

CAS is one of the close partners of CUHK. There have been a variety of ongoing projects between the two parties and the visit further strengthened the partnership and fostered long-term development in research and academic exchange.

Delegation from 302 Hospital

Prof. Xing Zhenhu, Commissar of 302 Hospital led a 4-member delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) from 8 to 9 December 2013 to know more about the University and explore collaboration opportunities in Medicine.

 

Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Yu Jun of the Department of Medicine & Therapeutics warmly welcomed the guests and led a tour to introduce the history and development of CUHK. The delegates also visited the Prince of Wales Hospital and met with Prof. Henry Chan, Assistant Dean of Faculty of Medicine and toured Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences in the hospital.

 

Through the visit, the delegation had the opportunity to learn more about the recent development of CUHK and to establish links for further collaboration.

Visit of Party Secretary of Xidian University 

 

A 4-member delegation led by Prof. Chen Zhiya, Party Secretary of Xidian University visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 12 December 2013 to understand the University and discuss the possibility of executive training.

 

The delegation met with Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK and Prof. Robert Li of Information Engineering to have an overview of the development of CUHK.  Visit was paid to the School of Continuing & Professional Studies (SCS) where the delegates met with Dr. Fowie Ng. Head, Division of Traditional Chinese Medicine& Health Care of SCS and other representatives of SCS. Both parties discussed the opportunity to cooperate in executive training programs.

 

CUHK and Xidian University collaborated to establish CUHK-Xidian University State Key Laboratory of Integrated Services Networks Shenzhen Advanced Switching and Network Coding Research Center in 2011. This visit had further enhanced communication between the two universities and helped promote and scale new collaboration projects.

Other Important Visits

- Prof. Gao Fu An, Vice President of Communication University of China led a delegation to visit CUHK on 5 December and met with Prof. Dennis Ng, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor to understand the development of the University. The delegation visited the Art Museum to have an overview of its operation.

-  A 5-member delegation led by Prof. Huang Guang Ying, Deputy Director of Academic Committee of Huazhong University of Science and Technology visited CUHK on 16 December 2013. The delegation met with Prof. Michael Hui, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and representatives from Registry to understand the academic governance and quality assurance of CUHK.
