Workshop on Chinese as an International Academic Language in Humanities and Social Sciences
A joint workshop on Chinese as an International Academic Language in Humanities and Social Sciences among the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Taiwan University (NTU) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) was held NTU on 6 June 2013.
Participants of the Workshop included Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Gordon Cheung, Associate-Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Chao Yung-Mau, Vice-President of NTU; Prof. Jiang Hong, Director of Humanities & Social Sciences of SJTU; as well as other scholars in the field of humanities and social sciences from the three universities. Discussions were held on topics in relation to the academic assessment of Chinese publications, the recognition of Chinese as an international academic language and the importance of humanities and social sciences in the world university ranking. The CUHK delegation also grasped the opportunity to meet with Prof. Lee Si-chen, President of Taiwan University.
The workshop served as a platform for cross-strait higher education leaders to share their views on the recognition of Chinese publications and to address the issues in academic assessment systems. It also nurtured links among CUHK, NTU and SJTU to consolidate efforts on promoting Chinese culture, including the use of Chinese in teaching and academic publication.

2013 Shanghai Jiaotong University Executive Training Class
The Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU) Training Class was held in the Chinese University of (CUHK) from 17 to 23 June 2013. The class comprised twenty-two executives from various units in SJTU.
The participants met with CUHK representatives including Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and representatives from various units to understand CUHK's academic development, human resources management, student affairs and College system. They also visited other universities in Hong Kong to obtain more information about the development of higher education in the region. Visit was paid to Hong Kong Heritage Museum for a better understanding of the society and culture of Hong Kong.
The activity strengthened relationship and helped promote exchange and collaboration between the two universities.
