CUHK Vice-Chancellor leads delegation to Beijing and joins the 120th Anniversary Celebration of Peking University
Prof. Rocky Tuan, Vice-Chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), led a delegation to Beijing on 3 – 6 May to attend the 120th anniversary celebration activities of Peking University (PKU). Visits were also paid to government ministries and partner institutions in Beijing, followed by meetings with the University's close associates. In the delegation comprises Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor; Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Prof. Steven Ngai, Department Chairperson of Social Work; Prof. Frederick Lau, Professor of Department of Music; and Ms. Wing Wong, Director of Academic Links (China).
University leaders from all parts of the world gathered for the 120th anniversary celebration of PKU. On behalf of the University, Prof. Tuan congratulated PKU on their jubilee and events including the World University Presidents Symposium & Beijing Forum 2018. Prof. Tuan delivered a speech themed "Humanities in New Generations" at the Forum, exchanging views in contemporary higher education development with other participants.
The delegation also visited the State Ministry of Civil Affairs (MCA), the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC) and Tsinghua University. CUHK delegates were warmly received and met with leaders including Mr. Huang Shuxian, Minister of Civil Affairs; Mr. Gu Chaoxi, Deputy Minister of Civil Affairs; Ms. Li Xiaolin, Chairperson of CPAFFC and Prof. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua Unveristy. Apart from setting out the blueprints of respective collaboration plans, Prof. Tuan introduced CUHK's Strategic Plan and China Engagement Strategies during the meetings. Representatives of different parties exchanged views concerning various collaboration projects, consolidating close partnerships and promoting divergent interflow.
A gathering with the University's close associates was held during the trip. Participating guests include Prof. Xu Guanhua, former Minister of Science and Technology of PRC and Honorary Doctor of Science of CUHK; Prof. Ch'ien Xun and Prof. Ch'ien Yi, son and daughter of Prof. Ch'ien Mu, founder of New Asia College, CUHK; and Mr. Steve Lau, member of the CUHK's Global Alumni Advisory Board.
CUHK has long been in close ties with frequent interaction with various universities and research institutes in Beijing. The University has achieved fruitful results with its counterparts in a wide variety of areas including scholar exchange, student interflow, research collaboration and joint programmes. This visit further contributed to the consolidation of the University's current collaborative efforts with Beijing partners and promoted closer linkage in different fields for partnership development.

Associate Vice-President of CUHK attends the activities of University Alliance of the Silk Road
Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) visited Xi'an from May 11 to 13 for a series of events organized by the University on 11-13 May. Activities included the Presidents' Forum of UASR and the World-Class Universities Expo 2018 in Xi'an.
The activities held in Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), attracted over 150 guests from 87 alliance member universities of 26 countries and regions. Prof. Wong exchanged views and experience with Prof. Xi Guang, Vice-President of XJTU and other universities' leaders, and shared the latest Belt and Road development of CUHK with them, further consolidating collaborative platforms with universities along the Silk Road. CUHK also set up a booth and displayed the University's achievement and plans at the Education Expo of World-Class Universities during the period, providing participating students with comprehensive information about CUHK's undergraduate and postgraduate programmmes.
Established in May 2015 by XJTU, UASR is now comprises of nearly 151 member universities from 37 countries and regions. The Alliance aims at promoting the spirit of the Silk Road by building a cooperative education platform for advanced regional development, fostering collaboration among members in areas of academic and scientific exchange, as well as cultural communications. CUHK joined the Alliance in 2016.
