9. Feature: Keeping Information Safe with eServices Firewall Service

Will you live in a room without door lock or security guard?

Of course we know your answer is "No".  You care yourself, your family members and your valuables.  How about your data?

Nowadays cybercrime is serious to a level that you can't imagine.  The top secret documents revealed by Edward Snowden tell us that hacking is everywhere.  It happens in every second, or even every millisecond.

Hackers are interested in confidential and personal information that you process every day, e.g. student records, staff information, donor contacts and credit card numbers.  Loss of such data may damage the University reputation, and break the trust between University and the students, staff and donors.  In some extreme cases it may even endanger your job.

Who can help?

As an individual staff member, you could help to keep department's sensitive information out of hackers' reach by following our suggested guidelines at http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/itsc/security/gpis/keepyourdata.html

At departmental level, you may consider subscribing to the eServices Firewall Service which offers data protection at a higher level.  The eServices firewall can block all illegal accesses from hackers. It is a next generation firewall that examines all the data packets sent to and from your PC, filtering all the traffic generated by unexpected applications, as well as those packets that contain viruses and malware. You do not need to purchase or set up any device by yourself – you just need to subscribe to the service and we will do the rest for you. The firewall is in high-availability configuration with 24x7 monitoring by our operators.

If your department is interested in subscribing to the eServices Firewall Service, please contact eServices Team for more details:
