CUHK Delegation Visits Jinan University attends the Assessment Meeting of Ministry of Education (MOE) Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine
A delegation led by Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) took part in the Assessment Meeting of the CUHK-Jinan University Ministry of Education (MOE) Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine in Jinan University (JNU) on 13 December 2013.Members of delegation comprised academic members from the School Biomedical Sciences (SBS) including Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS.
Mr. Lei Chao Zi, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of MOE gave an opening speech at the meeting. The Laboratory assessment was conducted by a group of experts appointed by MOE and was chaired by Ms. Ming Mei, Deputy Director, Basic Research Office of the Department of Science and Technology, MOE. Participants attending the meeting from Jinan University included Prof. Hu Jun and Prof. Liu Jie Sheng, President and Vice-President of Jinan University (JNU).Members of the joint laboratory from CUHK and JNU gave presentations on the joint unit and answered a variety of questions raised by the experts during the assessment meeting and the visit to the research facilities of the Laboratory. The assessment was successful with positive comments received from the experts and MOE granted approval for the official operation of the Laboratory.
In 2007, the two universities collaborated in establishing the CUHK-Jinan University Ministry of Education Key Laboratory for Regenerative Medicine. The assessment of MOE recognized the status of the joint Laboratory towards further development and research collaboration in regenerative medicine between the two universities.

CUHK-Sun Yat-sen University Steering Committee on Partnership Development
The 6th meeting of Steering Committee on Partnership Development between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) and Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was held on 19 December 2013. A 12-member CUHK delegation, led by Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK attended the meeting held in SYSU.
The meeting was co-chaired by Prof. Zhu Xiping, Vice President of SYSU and Prof. Fok Tai-fai, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK. Members from 12 collaborative teams in Oncology, Computer Sciences and Information Engineering, Biochemistry, Historical Anthropology, Chinese Medicine, Sociology, Water Resources, Law, Gastroenterology, Food Safety, Anthropology and Student Affairs reported the progresses of the projects and reviewed the possibilities for further collaboration.
SYSU is one of the major strategic partners of CUHK. Since the establishment of partnership in 1981, CUHK and SYSU have carried out a wide range of collaborative projects in student exchange, research collaboration and academic program. In 2006, CUHK established the State Key Laboratory in Oncology in South China in collaboration with SYSU. In 2011, CUHK-SYSU Centre for Historical Anthropology was launched as the first national-level joint research center in humanities and social sciences in CUHK and Hong Kong. Recently, both parties established the Cooperative Innovation Center for Partnership Development among Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China to forge synergistic collaboration. The Steering Committee on Partnership Development was set up by the two universities in 2007 to forge effective and sustainable relationship.
