The arrival of Lunar New Year is somewhat synonymous with red packets - a sign of prosperity and bliss.  Despite our fondness for receiving red packets, there is a question constantly in the minds of us: "what is sheer bliss?"


I·CARE Achievers Programme: Tryout Activities

The full-fledged I·CARE Achievers Programme will commence in the 1st term of 2018-19.  To gauge the effectiveness of part of the activities to be run under this Programme, a number of tryouts have been organised in February-April for free participation of all full-time undergraduates and postgraduates.


I·CARE Salon (11th Session) - What is "Law"

An iconic programme under University Lecture on Civility, the I·CARE Salon had its 10th session successfully held on 26 January.  Titled What is "Country", this session was presided by Dr. Baldwin Wong, Lecturer of the General Education Foundation Programme.  The audiences, which comprised both the CUHK community and the general public, were actively engaged in the discussion in this meaningful evening.


"Social Innovation Flow" Interactive Exhibition Truck at CUHK

The "Social Innovation Flow" interactive exhibition truck was first promoted by the Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) in late-November last year.  It has been touring around the city to showcase the innovative ventures to the general public.  The truck will arrive at CUHK as its next stop, whereby students and staff will have first-hand experience on how the innovative ventures assist the underprivileged in solving their problems.  Details are as follows:


A Walk in Community with I·CARE 2017-18 (4th Session)

The 4th session of "A Walk in Community with I·CARE 2017-18" has been scheduled for 3 March.  The participating CUHK students will visit Tin Zi Zok Wai, a community-based cooperation platform located at Tin Shui Wai, to learn about its daily operation and collaborate with its female members to produce fruit jam.  Tin Zi Zok Wai is formed by a group of women from the grassroots and aims to make use of their own skills and experience to create a sustainable economic system in the community.  Details of the activity are as follows:


I·CARE Theatre's The Shawshank Redemption

The I·CARE Theatre, co-organised by this Centre and The Office of the Arts Administrator, was rolled out in January and will continue bringing you a fine selection of films under the theme "Glitter in the Gloom" in coming two months.  The 3rd screening of film will be The Shawshank Redemption* which is directed by Frank Darabout.  Details are as follows:


I·CARE Social Service Day: Recruitment of Volunteers

This Centre is going to present the I·CARE Social Service Day to secondary school students on 18 March.  Themed "Playing a University Student for a Day", the programme is organised by CUHK students in collaboration with the elderly buddies serving as co-leaders.  Participants of the programme will gain university experience through a model lecture, visits to special facilities on campus, and interaction with CUHK students, etc.


S.I. Leadership Workshop II

Co-organised by CUSE Fund under this Centre and Yunus Social Business Centre@CUHK, the S.I. Leadership Workshop II has commenced since January.  The first three workshops on "Business Plan", "Design Thinking", and "Hong Kong Poverty Issue" were successfully held.


I·CARE Community Research Scheme: Progress Update

Over the past two months, participants of the I·CARE Community Research Scheme have been working hard in conducting studies on "Elderly-friendly Housing" and "Ma On Shan Community Development".


Life@CUHK - Exploring the Plentiful Possibilities of Life

Newly launched by this Centre, Life@CUHK drew to a successful close last week.  In 16 days' time, 20 activities had been rolled out to enrich students' campus life and were, in general, well received.  They included outdoor painting, laughter yoga, turbo kick, digital detox, experiencing Chinese tea culture, gazing of stars, talks, etc.


Talk of Walter Cheung: The Voice of 66 Marathons

Under Life@CUHK, the talk on "The Voice of 66 Marathons" was successfully held on 31 January.  This talk was presided by Mr. Walter Cheung who graduated from the School of Journalism and Communication of CUHK.  He is currently the Head of Communications and Corporate Sustainability, and a member of the Executive Committee of Hang Seng Bank.
