News: The Sixteenth Gradate Seminar on Modern and Contemporary China |
The Sixteenth Gradate Seminar on Modern and Contemporary China, co-organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong–Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies (CCK-APC), the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and the Centre for China Studies (CCS), was held on 4–5 January 2024 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
The Seminar was conducted in person and drew approximately 35 audience members in addition to the discussants and presenters. The event continues the Seminar which has since 2005 been organized at CUHK by the Universities Service Centre for China Studies (USC) with support from CCK-APC. With the theme “Land in China, 1900–2024”, this year’s Seminar invited a total of 20 scholars to present their research papers. The papers were divided into seven panels scheduled over a period of two days. |

News: Lingnan Culture Studies Research Paper Competition 2023 Award Winners |
The award winners of the Lingnan Culture Studies Research Paper Competition 2023, organized by the Research Programme for Lingnan Culture, Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), are officially announced. The Competition aims to promote international academic research on Lingnan culture, as well as to encourage local and overseas doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows who are aspiring to conduct in-depth research in the field. The competition received up to 30 research papers, all of which were assessed by the selection committee.
The award ceremony will be held on 25 April 2024. Prof. Steven B. Miles, Head and Professor of the Division of Humanities of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is invited to deliver a talk on “Wet Guangzhou: Seasonality in a Southern Chinese City, 1820s–1880s” as the keynote speaker.
