宋王臺文化記憶系列工作坊於2024年3月22日在香港中文大學文物館東翼二樓會議室舉行。此次工作坊由中大中國文化研究所「嶺南文化研究計劃」與中大中國古典詩學研究中心聯合主辦，邀請了韓子奇教授、陳學然教授、黎志添教授和嚴志雄教授四位專家學者分享研究心得，通過回顧、講述二十世紀上半葉香港宋王臺的歷史與故事，重拾香港的身世。

The Sixteenth Gradate Seminar on Modern and Contemporary China, co-organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong–Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies (CCK-APC), the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and the Centre for China Studies (CCS), was held on 4–5 January 2024 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

The Seminar was conducted in person and drew approximately 35 audience members in addition to the discussants and presenters. The event continues the Seminar which has since 2005 been organized at CUHK by the Universities Service Centre for China Studies (USC) with support from CCK-APC. With the theme “Land in China, 1900–2024”, this year’s Seminar invited a total of 20 scholars to present their research papers. The papers were divided into seven panels scheduled over a period of two days.

The award winners of the Lingnan Culture Studies Research Paper Competition 2023, organized by the Research Programme for Lingnan Culture, Institute of Chinese Studies, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), are officially announced. The Competition aims to promote international academic research on Lingnan culture, as well as to encourage local and overseas doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows who are aspiring to conduct in-depth research in the field. The competition received up to 30 research papers, all of which were assessed by the selection committee.

The award ceremony will be held on 25 April 2024. Prof. Steven B. Miles, Head and Professor of the Division of Humanities of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is invited to deliver a talk on “Wet Guangzhou: Seasonality in a Southern Chinese City, 1820s–1880s” as the keynote speaker.

Between 2023 and 2024, the Institute of Chinese Studies at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, the École française d'Extrême-Orient, and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Library co-organized The Backgrounds of the Chinese Maps: Their Reading and Understanding Public Lecture Series to create new perspectives in map studies through the exchange and cooperation in this field.

Two visiting scholars, one from the Visiting Fellowship Programme of the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and the other from the Young Scholars Visiting Scheme of The Chinese University of Hong Kong–Chiang Ching-kuo Foundation Asia-Pacific Centre for Chinese Studies (CCK-APC), were invited to deliver lectures to share their insights of their fields with the students and scholars of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 18 March, 2024.

The CUHK-EHESS Postgraduate Workshop and the CUHK-EHESS Symposium on Language and Cultural Contact along the Frontiers of China, Ancient and Modern, co-organized by the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), the Department of Chinese Language and Literature, and T.T. Ng Chinese Language Research Centre, were held on 27–28 March 2024 at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

Prof. Hui-shu Lee: Agency and Gendered Expression in Chinese Art

The Department of Fine Arts and the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) were honoured to invite Prof. Hui-shu LEE, Professor of the Department of Art History at the University of California, Los Angeles, to serve as a Visiting Scholar of both units. She shared on the topic “Agency and Gendered Expression in Chinese Art” on 20 April 2024, which attracted about 100 CUHK colleagues and students, alumni, and members of the public.

The 5th Chen Kai-wen Lecture on Modern Chinese History was successfully organized by the Research Centre for Contemporary Chinese Culture of the Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS) at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Prof. Shen Zhihua, a renowned professor from the East China Normal University, was invited to speak in a public lecture and a seminar on campus.

The Research Programme for Lingnan Culture is delighted to welcome Prof. Zuo Pengjun, Professor of the Faculty of Arts at South China Normal University, as the Research Programme for Lingnan Culture Visiting Scholar. Prof. Zuo was invited to visit The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) for a month and to deliver two public lectures to share his insights on Lingnan culture with CUHK students and scholars.
