Dr. Liu Xiaozhuo obtained his Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 2015 under the joint supervision of Prof. Owen M. Rennert (National Institutes of Health, U.S.A.), Prof. Chan Wai-yee and Prof. Fung Kwok-pui of School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS). He was one of the exchange graduates participating in the CUHK-NIH Graduate Partnership Program, through which he had been enabled to explore cutting-edge research areas in autism spectrum disorder (an early onset neurodevelopmental disorder) and stem cells in the world's premier biomedical research center NIH.
After graduation, he continues his passion for research, and is now working as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biological Sciences, The State University of New York at Buffalo, U.S.A. His postdoctoral research focuses on translation initiation in the fundamental molecular biology area, with particular emphasis on the investigation of how deregulated translation is involved in autism spectrum disorder in the future.
