College Service Team

Summer Service Project

With the generous support from The D. H. Chen Foundation, the College Service Team has launched its service projects smoothly throughout the years and they have positively influenced the lives of both university and secondary school participants of the projects.

The College Service Team has launched its seventh summer service project entitled 'Understanding Socially Disadvantaged School Youths Through a Social Service Endeavour 2019', which consists of the recruitment of secondary school participants, an Orientation Day (an ice-breaking workshop), a group leader training day and a summer camp, from May to July 2019. The group leader training day and the summer camp will be covered in the next issue.

Recruitment of Participants

Two recruitment days for the summer service project were held successfully in May 2019. Members of 'ServiChu', the seventh College Service Team, visited HHCKLA Buddhist Ching Kok Secondary School to promote the project to all Secondary 2 and 3 students at the morning class assembly session on 6 May 2019. They introduced the project and distributed enrollment forms.

On 29 May 2019, ServiChu visited Po Leung Kuk CW Chu College (PLKCWC) and met with the teachers and supporting staff there. After a brief introduction of the members, ServiChu presented the upcoming programmes of the project.

Positive feedback was received from the two schools and ServiChu believes that the upcoming programmes will be a success with the great support from the schools.

Orientation Day

An Orientation Day was held on PLKCWC on 22 June 2019 for the secondary student participants to meet their group leaders (Service Team members) before the summer camp. The students were divided into five groups. ServiChu hosted mass games and check-point games, followed by a group lunch during which the students were briefed on and reminded of some points for attention about the camp.

Lend a Paw

To show their care to animals and promote animal welfare, ServiChu and some College students participated in a volunteering activity on 25 May 2019 at The House of Joy & Mercy (阿棍屋), a non-profit animal rescue centre in Yuen Long, to take care of rescued dogs. After a briefing by the organiser on their duties and how to get along with the dogs, the participants helped to clean the centre, and to shower, walk and feed the dogs.
