I·CARE Salon (15th Session) - Gene-edited Babies: The Haunting Questions

I·CARE Salon, which is under the University Lecture on Civility, will continue to be organised in the new term.  Participants are allowed to understand and reflect on significant academic, cultural and social issues.

The recent He Jiankui Incident has aroused immense controversy around the world.  How would such kind of clinical trial affect our next generation?  I·CARE Salon has invited Dr. Derrick Au* to address its 15th session with the title Gene-edited Babies: The Haunting Questions.  He will also exchange views with the staff and students of CUHK and with the general public.  Details are as follows:

* Speaker's Biography:

Dr. Derrick Au, a specialist in gerontology and rehabilitation, received his Medical Doctor degree at Brown University, USA.  He had been serving in the Hong Kong public healthcare sector for more than 30 years and retired from the position of Director (Quality and Safety) of the Hospital Authority in 2016.  Dr. Au joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as the Director of CUHK Centre for Bioethics in March 2017.  On top of his medical profession, Dr. Au has been writing newspaper columns in Ming Pao and Hong Kong Economic Journal in the pen name of "Au Man-hoi" for many years.  He has published seven volumes of essays and a number of books on humanities, which include, inter alia,《醫院筆記:時代與人》(2016),《當我用心寫:一個醫生的十年記》(2017),《有詩的時候》(2017).
