The “Dialogue on Character” is hosted by Professor Joseph Sung and Professor Edwin Chan, Co-Chairmen of the Steering Committee for Promoting Personal Development through Social and Civic Engagement of the University. Influential figures in the city are invited to share their beliefs and stories, by which the participants can be enlightened on how positive character traits are intertwined with personal success and achievements. The fourth session of “Dialogue on Character” was successfully conducted on the 10th of this month. Themed “Wisdom of Caution”, this episode had Mr. Stephen Kai-yi Wong, formerly Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, to talk about how he prudently dealt with the challenges at work by virtue of strong convictions and principles. He also advised young people to take the initiative to acquire knowledge from a wide range of disciplines so as to broaden their perspective. As for the “Workshop on Compassionate Communication”, it is a new activity which aims to provide elementary knowledge and strategies for participants to find out the actual feelings and needs of themselves and other people, thus transforming conflicts into powerful connections, mending broken relationships and untangling emotions. Three sessions were conducted in Cantonese, Mandarin and English on the 6th, 11th and 12th of this month respectively with JUST FEEL engaged as the instructor. Participants learnt not only how to practise empathetic listening and expression, but also their own style of communication through interactive activities.
