The course, incorporated with elements of the “seven ways to happiness”, aimed at teaching people to uplift their physical and mental wellbeing through running. Learners of the course, who are youngsters and elders (from the ELCHK Sheen Hok Charitable Foundation Kwan Shon Hing Yu Chui Neighbourhood Elderly Centre), will then become a “happiness coach” to connect with the community. The outdoor face-to-face part of the course took place amid the implementation of stringent anti-epidemic measures while the last two sessions were held online. Despite the latter’s virtual format, passion for running of the learners had scarcely been affected.
According to the feedback of many elderly learners, they felt lonely because of the prolonged stay at home caused by the pandemic. Their participation in the running course with the youngsters could, therefore, enable them to regain happiness. As for the marathon team members of the I·CARE Achievers Programme, their support rendered to this running course did enhance the confidence and sense of security of the elderly learners. They also gained a fruitful experience in caring for the community.
