Welcome to our new students, welcome back to returning students and greetings to our researchers, staff and friends of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)!

The start of the academic year is always special, regardless of how long one has been at the university. This start of sessiontime it has an extraordinary quality to it, as the first in what feels like a lifetime with no restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, after the successful roll-out of the vaccination programme globally.

On 19 September 2023, we held the opening ceremony for the refurbished CUHK History Gallery. On this joyful occasion, more than 40 guests were delighted to meet the Vice Chancellor (VC), Professor Rocky Tuan, the two former VCs Professor Ambrose King and Professor Lawrence Lau, and Ms Lina Yan, Chairperson of the CUHK 60th Anniversary Celebration Steering Committee. It was our honour to have them as officiating guests.

Ms Vivian So
Head, Acquisitions

What do you do at the Library? What are you responsible for?

I am the Head of Acquisitions and my department is responsible for supporting teaching, learning and research at CUHK by acquiring and receiving printed books, journals and all other materials in tangible formats. We always strive to acquire these materials in a timely manner via the most economical means, while ensuring that all acquisitions are made in compliance with University guidelines and protocols. The purchased materials are processed efficiently to ensure that they are made available to CUHK Library patrons as quickly as possible. My team also handles the physical processing of materials, such as managing the binding work of the Library’s print collections.
