On 9 October, Prof. Jack Cheng, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) led a delegation to visit Kunming Institute of Zoology (KIZ), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The delegation members included Prof. Chan Wai Yee, Director of School of Biomedical Sciences; Prof. Fung Kwok Pui, Chairman of Department of Biochemistry; and Prof. Nelson Tang of Department of Chemical Pathology. The delegation met with Prof. Zhang Yaping, Director of Kunming Institute of Zoology to discuss cooperation issues between CUHK and KIZ.

2009 Meeting of the Association of University Presidents of China and Presidents' Forum was held in Xi'an Jiaotong University on 10 October. In the meeting, the association warmly welcomed two new members: University of Science and Technology of China and Harbin Institute of Technology. Including the founding members, the Association now has total of 12 member universities.

A delegation from Ministry of Education (MOE) visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 October. The delegation was led by Mr. Xu Yongji, Assistant Director General, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange of MOE. The purpose of the visit was to understand the development of CUHK and to get a better idea on joint education programmes between the University and the institutions in Mainland China.

Prof. Lee Si-chen, President of Taiwan University led a delegation to visit the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) on 28 October to strengthen bilateral relationship and to further develop academic exchanges between the two universities. The delegation was warmly welcomed by CUHK.

The 11th Challenge Cup was held at Beihang University on 28 - 30 October 2009. The Chinese University of Hong Kong won the top prize for the Hong Kong and Macau Region. CUHK is the only university in Hong Kong who received the award in 4 consecutive competitions. 

The 11th Higher Education Management Training Programme in Tsinghua University, jointly organized by Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Ministry of Education (MOE), and Education, Science and Technology Department, Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in HKSAR, was held on 9 - 16 October 2009.

To facilitate the interflow of ideas and collaboration among universities of Mainland China and Hong Kong on the development and commercialization of research output, the Knowledge Transfer Unit, Centre for Innovation and Technology (CINTEC) and Office of Academic Link (China) of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) co-hosted the Forum with Mainland experts on Knowledge Transfer on 20 October 2009 at the Cho Yiu Hall on the CUHK campus. With the support and participation of the co-organizer, Hong Kong Information Technology Joint Council (HKITJC) and Beijing-Hong Kong Academic Exchange Centre, near 30 experts from universities of Mainland China and local industries attended the forum. Participants shared and exchanged experiences on the tripartite interaction among the industry, education and research sectors as well as the application of technological advancements.
