Korean pop culture and products are no stranger to Hong Kong people, but the real South Korea is more than that. This tour aims to enable the participants to see the traditional and contemporary Korea in a deeper perspective. The group visited Korean Demilitarized Zone where they took a close look at the third North Korean infiltration tunnel. The traditional Bukchon Hanok Village and Changdeokgung Palace are good examples of integrating history into modern city life.
In touring around the renowned Yonsei University and Sungkyunkwan University, SHHO students talked and made friends with Korean students. Founded in 1398, Sungkyunkwan was Korea's foremost institution of higher learning under the Joseon Dynasty education system. Myeongnyundang, a lecture hall dating back to the Dynasty, is well kept in the campus which was a real eye-opener to the students.
South Korea's cultural industries attract world-wide attention and have a great impact on young people. The group paid a visit to MBC, one of the major national South Korean television and radio networks. Its programmes and dramas that have enjoyed high viewership include Jewel in the Palace, My Lovely Sam Soon, and Infinite Challenge. Besides visiting large-sized film studio, well-equipped news centre and radio broadcasting studio, students also tried out their skills as news anchors.
