I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project: Phase Two Completed

The 36 CUHK students enrolled in the I·CARE Hong Kong Cultural Tours Project as docents had thoughtfully designed the theme-based tours during the past two months.  Topics for the tours of this academic year are finally confirmed as follows:

1.  Formation and Transition of Markets in Prince Edward and Mong Kok
2.  Three Hidden Cultures in Yau Ma Tei
3.  Immigrant Community at North Point
4.  Life of Fishermen at Shau Kei Wan in the Past
5.  Public Spacing in To Kwa Wan
6.  Survival Strategies of Traditional Business Operators in Kowloon City (tentative)

Under the guidance of experienced instructors, our students conducted a number of mock tours in late-January.  They formed groups to play the docent role and took turns to lead the tours for their counterparts.  Through such drilling process, they had practised the presentation skills and were able to review the tour routes.

In coming March - May, our students will offer cultural tours to the youngsters from secondary schools and community centres to deepen their understanding of local history and cultures.
