The Academia Sinica Academicians Visit Program cum Lecture Series
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) staged the fourth Academia Sinica (AS) Academicians Visit Program from 13 to 16 April 2015 to establish closer partnership with AS. Academicians Prof. LI, Paul Jen-kuei, Distinguished Research Fellow from the Institute of Linguistics; and Prof. LIU Shaw Chen, Distinguished Visiting Fellow, Founding Director of Research Center for Environmental Changes were invited to visit CUHK for academic exchange.
The delegates were warmly received by CUHK senior members including Prof. Fok Tai-fai and Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellors; Prof. Lai Pan Chiu, Associate Dean of Arts; Prof. Sunny Kwong, Associate Dean of Social Science; Prof. Shen Jiangfa, Chairman of the Department of Geography and Resources Management; Prof. Gabriel Lau, Director of the Institute of Environment, Energy and Sustainability; Prof. Thomas Li, Chairperson of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages, and Prof. William Wang, Director of CUHK–PKU–University System of Taiwan Joint Research Centre for Language and Human Complexity. CUHK representatives introduced to the guests the latest developments of the University. The delegation also visited the academic departments and toured relevant research facilities where they met with faculty members to exchange ideas and explore possibilities for further collaboration.
On 14 April 2015, Prof. Li and Prof. Liu delivered public lectures at the Lecture Series by Academicians to share their experiences and expertise in their respective fields of research. The lectures attracted participants including academics, researchers and students from CUHK and other universities as well as members from the general public.
This high-level exchange program provided a valuable opportunity to build linkage between CUHK and AS, strengthening the connection between the two parties to pave way for further collaboration. Leaders from Mainland Universities Join the Worldwide Universities Network Presidents Forum organized by CUHK
Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) Presidents Forum 2015 organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was held in CUHK, Shenzhen on 30 April 2015. Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK joined the activity and chaired the Panel Discussion of the Forum on behalf of the University.
Senior members from mainland universities joined this event in Shenzhen, which comprised of Prof. Yang Fujia, President of the University of Nottingham Ningbo, Prof. Xu Yangsheng, President of CUHK (Shenzhen); ; Prof. Xu Ningsheng, President of Fudan University; Prof. Li Jiajun, President of Tianjin University; Prof. Wang Shuguo, President of Xi'an Jiaotong University; Prof. Zhou Zuoyu, Vice President of Beijing Normal University; Prof. Luo Qingming, Vice President of Huazhong University of Science & Technology; Prof. Hong Dayong, Vice President of Renmin University of China; Prof. Ruan Shuangchen, Vice President of Shenzhen University; Prof. Li Guangxian, Executive Vice President of Sichuan University; Prof. Zhu Min, Vice President, South China University of Technology; Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; Prof. Wu Yueliang, Vice President, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences; Prof. Li Fei, Vice President, Wuhan University; and Prof. Song Yonghua, Executive Vice-President of Zhe Jiang University, one of the member universities of WUN in China.
Over 30 university leaders from WUN and Mainland China gathered for the valuable interflow at the Forum. Professor Xu Yangsheng, together with Dr Max Price, Chair of WUN Partnership Board, and Mr. Fan Kun, Deputy Director General of Education in Shenzhen Municipal Government, delivered welcoming remarks at the opening ceremony. The topic of the Forum this year is 'Global and Local: Reform Agendas for Higher Education in China and the World'. Prof. Yang Fujia gave keynote address whilst Prof. Joseph Sung chaired the panel discussion on Advancing higher education internationalization through partnership and collaboration. Participating leaders exchanged ideas and shared experience following the topic. Mr. Ma Xingrui, Party Secretary of Shenzhen, hosted the Forum luncheon and welcomed the participating presidents on behalf the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The event acted as a platform for senior university members from Mainland China and WUN to build up linkage as well as help bring together China and the West to enhance collaboration in higher education.
