The 9th Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academicians' Visit Programme cum Lecture Series
CUHK hosted the 9th Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academicians' Visit Programme from 23 to 26 February 2016. Six CAS Academicians visited CUHK this year, including Prof. Yan Jia'an and Prof. Yuan Yaxiang of the Division of Mathematics and Physics, Prof. Shi Yaolin, Prof. Zhang Peizhen and Prof. Chen Fahu of the Division of Earth Sciences, and also Prof. Zhu Shining of the Division of Technological Sciences.
The University extended a warm welcome to the delegation.The academicians and guests met with Prof. Joseph Sung, Vice-Chancellor of CUHK; Prof. Fanny Cheung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Chairperson of the Research Committee; Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President; Prof. Wong Ching-ping, Faculty Dean of Engineering; and Prof. Henry Wong, Faculty Dean of Science. The delegated also visited the Institute of Space and Earth Information Science, the Departments of Electronic Engineering, Mathematics and Statistics, the Earth System Science Programme and the Art Museum, where they familiarized themselves with the latest research development of the University. They also interacted with faculty members, discussed collaboration opportunities between CUHK and CAS in various fields, particularly in inter-disciplinary collaboration.
The six academicians delivered public lectures for the Lecture Series by Academicians on 24 February, sharing their expertise with members of CUHK and of the public, attract an audience of more than 450 people.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Academicians' Visit Programme was first organized in 2008. Each year, five to six academicians from CAS are invited to visit CUHK and host the Lecture Series. The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) will organize the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) Scholars Visit Programme in March 2016.
