6. Nowhere to Host Your Department/Personal Websites and Applications?

With the retirement of Logic server on 30 Jun 2014 and iHome server on 31 Aug 2014, you may now look for places to host your websites and applications. Here is a check list you need to consider while selecting a hosting place

- Departmental Webpage/Application

Site Building

For static HTML pages (such as using Dreamweaver) and password protected directories, CUHK Web Server (www.cuhk.edu.hk) is always an answer.
For using a site building tool (such as Content Management System) to ease your subsequent site management, please contact ITSC (cloud@cuhk.edu.hk / 3943 8838) for an appropriate solution.

Server OS and Database Management

If departments or vendors can take up the server operating system (OS) or database management, please simply apply for our Special Virtual Machine (VM) platform. This VM platform is a type of Cloud IT service which offers a VM with firewall protection, in monthly subscription basis, to provide flexibility for non-ITSC departments to acquire their own virtual machines instantly and to eliminate long acquisition process for physical machine. (Note: This site has a genuine certificate issued by CUHK Root Certificate Authority (CA). To avoid "the site's security certificate is not trusted" warning always prompt while accessing the page, you should install CUHK Root CA into you browser from http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/ca/usage.html#root. )

Server Co-location

If you need to house a physical server, the Co-location Rack Services may suit you. You don't need to worry about facility management in the data centre. This service will be available this June! Details will be announced in Jun ITSC Digest.

- Personal Webpage/Application

Individuals are suggested to make use of public cloud solutions to publish personal homepages with ease. By using them, you do not need HTML knowledge for building and managing your homepages.
